I don’t drink much so wine and the cocktails have been the biggest chanllenge for me!! I am trying to decide which cocktails or other alc. bevs to push? And also how is the best way to describe them? I am horrible at describing them bc I do not drink so I don’t know what to say! For instance say I was gonna push a strawberry maragarita I would say it is frozen and is made with strawberry! Can be served on the rocks! lol No one wld buy from me:-) Please help me. Please tell me what has worked for u.
Thank you so much…also any other tips on serving as this will be my frist serving job @ resturaunt!!
If your manager asks you to push particular items, then you should get info from him on exactly how to describe them, especially since you’re unfamiliar with alcoholic beverages.
The best tip I can give you is to keep your eyes moving. Constantly check your tables to see if people need more water, want to order something else, have a problem or question. Keep smiling, whatever happens and thank people for coming to Olive Garden and you’ll do fine.

i’m sorry, to "push"? a true fine dining establishment with any class will never push a particular beverage (or anything else)
i know your managers probably want you to "push" stuff, but as a restaurant patron, I hate having the staff "push" things, I already know what I want, let me just order
most people know their drink preferences already, and if they want to experiment, then generally places like Olive Garden go to the trouble of putting little cocktail and wine menus on the tables for guests to peruse themselves
moreover, the people dining with them also generally offer suggestions
you should only make suggestions if diners ask, but in order to do that, you’re going to need the knowledge; your employer should be training you on the knowlege, if they aren’t, then damn, I think even less of Olive Garden now than I did before (my only experience with Olive Garden involved them using a wine glass too small and filling it too high, with supermarket brands of wine, but hey, if you want serious restaurant experiences, you don’t dine at national chains anyhow)
really, we just want you to take our order, refresh our drinks, check and see if we want dessert, and bring the check so that we don’t have to wait all night to get out of the restaurant
take what your management’s goals are with a grain of salt, and remember that the actual patrons hate what management loves

You’re just going to have to drink all the drinks. Maybe in one sitting. That’s what I would do.
